Explores the emergence, evolution and causes of genocide in the twentieth century. Examples will be drawn from colonial genocides, the mass murder of Armenians, the Nazi Holocaust of Jews, Sinti and Roma, Soviet massacres, genocides in Cambodia and Rwanda, and "ethnic cleansing" in the former Yugoslavia.
