Administration and Organization of School Counseling Programs.

Description

This course covers the role and function of the counselor in school settings; the study of school structure, policies, and procedures; the development, implementation, and evaluation of counseling and guidance services; issues in consultation, administration, and systemic interventions. The first part of the course describes the regulations and laws that govern student support services. The second portion of the course deals with the New York State Comprehensive Counseling Program” and the best practices for providing and evaluating complete multi-tiered programs with diverse student populations to include: Special Education and linguistically diverse students. Dispersed throughout the course, candidates will see how the use of technology and its application assists the counselor with routine clerical work, record keeping and data driven decisions. Candidates seeking the Bilingual Extension in SC will complete required assignments with a focus on linguistically diverse learners/bilingual education.
