This course will focus on the study of education as a social and socializing institution, exploring the structures, processes, and interaction patterns within schooling. The course focuses on the multiple and complex ways in which internal as well as wider social structural forces impinge upon or influence social processes in the classroom and in society. Special attention is given to issues surrounding cultural diversities, poverty, and inequality.
