Mathematics in the Elementary School

Description

Required course for MAT, Grades 1-6 students; open only to students in this program. This course examines key concepts, strategies, and skills in the elementary school curriculum. Topics include estimation and mental computation, place value, development of algorithms, algebraic reasoning, fractions and decimals, probability and data analysis, and measurement and geometric concepts. There will be an emphasis on problem-solving, reasoning and proof, communication, and representation of ideas. The course also addresses state and national standards in elementary school mathematics, and discusses uses of technology in the classroom.This course has an M&T Fee.
