Language Development and Emergent Literacy

Required course for MAT students; open only to MAT students. Students examine how language develops in young children, the relation between language and cognition, and the sociocultural factors that impinge upon language learning. Among the major topics are: language assessment, language diversity, and emergent literacy. Emphasized throughout are teaching strategies and classroom experiences that foster language development in the young child. This course has a Material and Transportation Fee.
