Modern psychological problems are seen in historical perspective. Topics include the mind-body problem, motivation and empiricism, hedonism and reinforcement, hypnotism and spiritualism, psychophysiology and psychopathology. The nineteenth- and twentieth-century schools of psychology "structuralism, functionalism, Gestalt, psychoanalysis, and behaviorism" are reviewed, as are the contributions of philosophers and physical, biological, and social scientists.
